Another weekly update is now live! 20/06/2025 We have just sent what we hope is the last QA build to our testers! If no major issues come up, we will be talking dates very soon 🎉 ⚙️Networking Team Update: This week was spent mainly on implementing the Proxy backend transport, which allows the client to communicate with the backend through the server, which then places the requests to the backend on their behalf. This approach allows us to mitigate any routing/timing issues (since the client communicates directly with the server), minimize backend calls and database access, and it's generally safer, more performant and cost-effective. There's also plenty of room for optimization, since the server can cache information, compress the payload, batch multiple requests, bypass authentication, etc. When not connected to a server (e.g. in the title screen), the client will revert seamlessly to the regular Websocket and REST (http) transports. We also fixed a bunch of issues, including a nasty overflow issue that affected how the time was being accounted, which made the light/shadows choppy and popping. Weather and time are now being synced correctly across all clients. We also implemented the ability to run GameLift Anywhere instances automatically, which allows us to debug the GameLift SDK in a local server, as opposed to having to build and deploy a new server on each change!
