The modular thesis was all the rave on CT and one of the most predominant theses the past 2-3 years. What people don’t tell you is that a lot of the infrastructure to support this are custom tailored to the Ethereum and Cosmos stacks, none of which is compatible with the Move VM. To put it simply we are making the switch to a sovereign L1 because the modular thesis did nothing to advance the end UX of our builders or users. If anything, it created more problems than it solved, especially as it pertains to bottlenecks with network performance. This isn’t to say Movement is declaring war on the modular thesis, but we realized having a monolithic L1 will provide us, our builders, and our users, a more robust developer and user experience, and at the end of the day, that means infinitely more than “Ethereum alignment” (whatever that actually means 🤷🏻♂️).
