그 내용을 바탕으로, Walrus를 다시 정리해보았습니다.
Sui는 Storage Fund라는 시스템을 통해 지속 가능한 데이터 저장 구조를 만들었습니다.
이 구조 덕분에 Sui에서는 온체인 데이터를 삭제하면 일부 비용을 환불받을 수 있고, 데이터 저장 수수료를 미리 받아 밸리데이터들에게 인센티브로 지급합니다.
하지만 온체인 데이터 중에는 크기가 작은 것도 있지만, 이미지·영상 같은 대용량 파일(Blob)도 있습니다.
예를 들어 NFT 원본 이미지를 온체인에 저장하면 무결성을 보장할 수 있지만, 모든 노드가 이를 복제하면 비용과 용량 부담이 큽니다.
실제로 Walrus 이전에도 Filecoin, Arweave 등 큰 데이터를 탈중앙적으로 저장하려는 프로젝트들이 있었습니다.
다만 이들은 사용자가 업로드한 파일을 일부 노드들이 ‘그대로’ 복제 저장하는 방식이라, 네트워크 전체 저장 비용이 많이 들고 비효율적입니다.
Walrus는 erasure coding 기반 탈중앙 스토리지 프로토콜입니다.
Sui 네트워크를 활용해 스토리지 노드 관리, Blob 메타데이터 기록, 인센티브 지급 등을 처리합니다.
Walrus에서는 큰 Blob을 슬리버라는 작은 조각으로 나누어 각 노드에 분산 저장합니다.
이 방식은 데이터를 4~5 배로 복사 저장하는 수준으로 낮춰도 대용량 데이터를 안전하게 저장할 수 있게 해줍니다.
게다가 Walrus는 Red Stuff 인코딩이라는 2D erasure coding 방식을 활용해, 데이터가 일부 손실되더라도 네트워크 전체 복구 비용을 기존 방식보다 획기적으로 줄였습니다.
