Sonic achieves true finality in just one block, ensuring immediate and irreversible transactions without relying on Ethereum's finality window.
No matter how fast an L2 claims to be, its "true finality" still depends on Ethereum’s finality window. All "finality" is not created equal. Even if an L2 shows 10ms transaction confirmation, the transaction isn't fully final until it’s finalized on Ethereum — which can take minutes (for block finality) or up to 7 days (for fraud-proof challenge windows on optimistic rollups). With 10ms finality, that chain needs to wait ~760,000ms for Ethereum to finalize that transaction. (If you consider the 7 day "fault challenge period", that would be about ~604,800,000ms) Most chains are overselling their "pre-finality" by packaging it up as "finality". This distinction is often blurred in marketing. Soft confirmations are not the same as immutable settlement. So when you see 10ms, realize that is about 76,000x off from reality and about 60,480,000x off from the end of the "fault challenge period" which would make it TRULY final. In contrast, on Sonic, transactions reach finality in ~300ms without dependency on Ethereum’s finality or fraud windows. No 7 days shenanigans. This is real speed.
